At least 13 people have been confirmed dead following a devastating three-vehicle collision at Odumase, near Konongo, on the Kumasi–Accra Highway in the Ashanti Region.
Authorities fear the death toll could rise as some of the injured remain in critical condition at various health facilities.
The crash involved a cargo truck loaded with tomatoes, a passenger bus and a fuel tanker, which officials said was not carrying fuel at the time of the accident.
Although investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the crash, eyewitnesses told JoyNews that the collision occurred after an alleged wrongful overtaking attempt, resulting in a head-on crash involving the vehicles.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service, National Ambulance Service and Ghana Police Service were deployed to the scene to rescue trapped occupants and transport the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The accident caused heavy traffic congestion along the busy Kumasi–Accra Highway as emergency responders worked to clear the wreckage and recover victims.
The tragedy was compounded by reports of a second road accident at Dadieso, also near Konongo, shortly after the Odumase crash. Details surrounding the second incident remain unclear.

The occurrence of two major accidents on the same stretch of road within a short period has renewed concerns over road safety on one of Ghana’s busiest highways.
Road safety advocates have repeatedly called for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations and greater caution among motorists to curb the rising number of fatalities on the country’s roads.
