Host of The Verdict on Starr FM, Isaac Addae, has raised concerns about the dangers Ghanaians face in their daily movement, particularly on the country’s roads.
According to him, the combination of road accidents, poor road conditions and inadequate street lighting has created a situation where people are increasingly uncertain about their safety whenever they leave home.
“When you’re coming out of your house and you want to even walk on the road, or possibly get to board a car, or even drive; for those of you who drive you’re even scared because you’re not too sure what is going to happen on the road,” he said.
Isaac Addae noted that frequent reports of road accidents have heightened fears among motorists, passengers and pedestrians, particularly when travelling at night.
He expressed concern that several roads remain without adequate streetlights, while some of the existing streetlights are also not functioning properly.
“A lot of the roads don’t even have streetlights. For those that even have streetlights, they are not even functioning well. “Everything is a risk in this country,” he stated.
While acknowledging the responsibility of authorities to fix poor roads and ensure adequate street lighting, Isaac Addae said motorists must also accept responsibility for the dangers on the roads.
He criticised drivers who speed and drive carelessly, warning that reckless behaviour puts not only the drivers themselves but other road users at risk.
“Every day, once you are driving, you will see someone who is driving carelessly on the road,” he said.
Isaac Addae further urged motorists to exercise caution and value their lives, stressing that life is precious and cannot be recovered once lost.
He also encouraged Ghanaians to appreciate the privilege of returning home safely after their daily activities, noting that some people leave their homes but never get the opportunity to return because of road accidents.
The comments come amid continuing concerns over road safety, with the host calling for greater responsibility from both authorities and road users to make travelling on Ghana’s roads safer.
