The Super Eagles Team B will be up against their Equatorial Guinea counterparts in the final group match of the ongoing Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) in Morocco today.
The Super Eagles are joint leaders of Group C alongside Rwanda, who have similar statistics like Nigeria with four points and +1 goals difference.
Both Nigeria and Rwanda have won one match each and also drew one apiece while Libya, the former winners of this championship, are in the third place with three points after winning one match and losing another. The Libyans succumbed 1-0 to Nigeria after they thrashed Guinea 3-0 in the match-day one.
Apart from Guinea, the trio of Nigeria, Rwanda and Libya has the chances of making it to the quarterfinal and that makes the last group matches between Nigeria and Guinea on one hand and Libya and Rwanda on the other, which simultaneously start by 9pm this evening, a dicey one.
Salisu Yusuf, the coach of the side, while speaking to the media on their last match against Libya and the match ahead, commended the attitude of the players, saying that they look forward to the Guinea match with discipline.
“Our strategy to close down their [Libya’s] space worked,” Yusuf said. “We watched their games and they’re a good possession team, good with the ball.
“Closing down the space gave us the advantage.
“We look forward to the next game with humility and discipline. We have to work hard – very hard – to beat Equatorial Guinea. It won’t be easy,” he concluded.
