The pregnant midwifery student at the Gushegu Midwifery College, Cecilia Awuni, will be allowed to partake in the school’s examination Thursday due to pressure from the public and the General Nurses and Midwifery Council, the Principal of the school has revealed.
According Rukaya Alhassan, she has received threatening messages from the public including her superiors at the Midwifery Council to allow the student write the examination even though their rules do not permit it.
She told Starr News’ Eliasu Tanko that the Council, as part of its regulations, does not allow pregnant students write examination and so she has been surprised by the pressure brought on her by her bosses.
Drama unfolded at the college Wednesday when authorities told the student they could not allow her to write the exams because she was pregnant.
But the decision has been rescinded following threats by her lawyer Francis Xavier Sosu to sue the midwifery council over the incident.
