NPP polls: I’ve not stepped down – Freddie Blay

Freddie Blay has denied stepping down in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) national chairmanship race in July 2018.

The acting national chairman of the Elephant Family has described as “malicious rumour” news making rounds that he is throwing in the towel in support of his contender Stephen Ntim.

“Chairman Freddie Blay has not stepped out of the race as it is being alleged,” his campaign manager Sylvester Tetteh said in a statement.

“In fact, he is the candidate to beat in this race and not the other way round. We are by this statement dispelling this malicious rumour which has clearly been orchestrated by his detractors and opponents who cannot cope with the reality that Mr. Blay has won this race and would wish to mischievously create this misconception,” he added.

Below is the full statement:

DISCLAIMER! DISCLAIMER! DISCLAIMER!

Our attention has been drawn to a publication making rounds purported to ferry into the minds of the good people of the New Patriotic Party and our delegates that Chairman Freddie Blay has stepped down and is no longer vying for the National Chairmanship slot of the party scheduled for July 2018 at Koforidua.

The statement also seems to create the impression that the decision to bow out of the race is hinged on some voodoo research that appears to suggest that Chairman Freddie Blay’s decision is attributed to the fact that he cannot win this race and has therefore decided to throw his weight behind Mr Stephen Ntim.

Let me forcefully state without any shred of doubt that no such statement has been issued by Chairman Blay or any of his campaign coordinators. Chairman Freddie Blay has not stepped out of the race as it is being alleged. In fact, he is the candidate to beat in this race and not the other way round.

We are by this statement dispelling this malicious rumour which has clearly been orchestrated by his detractors and opponents who cannot cope with the reality that Mr. Blay has won this race and would wish to mischievously create this misconception. Obviously pained by the fact that this race is a foregone conclusion, such a statement has been crafted to pollute the atmosphere.

This, we believe, is coming from the camp of the obvious loser in this contest. We therefore, urge all and sundry to disregard this fabricated story and treat it with the sort of disdain it deserves. We are focused on our agenda to ensure that Chairman Freddie Blay emerges victorious when the election is held. Thank you!
