Vice President  Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has called on Ghanaian writers and authors alike to document by way of biographies the lives of the many heroes and heroines the country can boast of to serve as a source of reference for the next generation.

He made the plea at the Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel as the special guest at the launch of the biography of the Chief Imam, His Eminence, Dr. Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, entitled “A Gift to the Nation.”

“There are many more heroes and heroines whose examplary lives ought to be documented properly in a book. I want to encourage the author and many others with similar intentions to give us more biographies of our national heroes and heroines,” Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia said.

The launch of the biography entitled “A Gift to the Nation” is part of the year-long activities to celebrate the centenary (100th) birthday of the Chief Imam. The Vice President in his address describes the biography as a “riveting account of the examplary life and values of an astute teacher, an outstanding leader, an empathetic philanthropist, a tireless unifier, an ideal Iman and a peaceful man”.

“‘A Gift to the Nation’ is a gift to you and I. Please buy the book, read and get some blessings,” the Vice President admonished the participants at the launch.

In all, a total of one hundred and fifty two thousand Ghana Cedis (GHc152,000.00) was realized when the books were auctioned. President Akufo Addo though absent, bought a copy of the book for 20,000.00 Ghana Cedis. Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, took a copy home for 10,000.00 Ghana Cedis. Alhaji Fasuq Gonda, also bought a copy of the book for 20,000.00 Ghana Cedis. Former President John Dramani Mahama through the Chairman of the NDC, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo who represented him, also purchased a copy for 10,000.00 Ghana Cedis and retired boxer and national hero, Professor Azumah Nelson took home a copy of the biography for 5,000.00 Ghana Cedis.
