E/R: Bus loaded with passengers catches fire

The passengers escaped the incident unhurt

A Sprinter Bus carrying passengers caught fire on the Suhum stretch of the Accra-Kumasi Highway.

Passengers on board the Sprinter bus with registration number GG 2858-18 traumatically escaped through the Windows and main door. No major injury was recorded.

In a separate development, there was a near-fatal accident which involved three vehicles.

The accident occurred Friday, December 20, 2019, at Akyem Osiem along the Koforidua to Bunso highway.

A Tipper Truck with Registration Number -GM 2456-16 loaded with sand rammed into a Ford vehicle with Registration Number GM 2456-12 causing a multiple car crash involving a Ford and a Toyota Hiace with registration number ER 1673-17 onboard 15 persons. They sustained various forms of injuries and rushed to Akyem Tafo Government Hospital.

A pillion rider with two passengers veered off the road and run into a ditch in an attempt to avoid crashing into the accident vehicles.

In another road accident-related development, a vehicle with Registration number GY 1118-13 crashed head-on with a Toyota RAV4 Vehicle with registration number GE 2663-Z at Abanse in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality. Five out of eight people on board the commercial vehicle, as well as the driver of the Toyota RAV4 Vehicle, sustained various degrees of injuries hence rushed to St.Martins Deporres Hospital at Agormanya for treatment.

Eastern region is notorious for high rate of road accidents. A total of 722 accident cases were recorded in the Eastern region from January to October this year. Out of this,1062 were as a result of vehicles crashes,188 knockdowns, 228 were reported dead with 1,288 injuries.
