Retired Police Officer and MP for Wa West Peter Toobu has questioned the ability of the Police Service to interrogate the organizers of the funeral of the late Forestry Commission boss Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie popularly known as Sir John.
It follows a request from the Ghana Medical Association over the blatant disregard for COVID protocols at the ceremony attended by President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumiah.
Pressure is mounting on the police to probe the incident just as it did when the Christ Embassy organized a church service without adhering to the COVID protocols.
Mr Toobu told Starr News that the Police cannot investigate the matter because of the involvement of political actors.
He stated “the police enforces the law without fear or favor, that is on paper. But in actual sense, the police enforces the law that works on the vulnerable people, not a law that works on the powers that be.”
“People who are believed to be Christians, organise a gathering at the Dome, and they were said to have gone against the executive instrument, and I’m sure they are in court now.”
He questioned “here we are, this was an offence committed in the presence of the police. The police were at Sir Johns funeral when this thing was done. And they know that they are prosecuting some people for a similar thing, why do you wait for somebody to tell you?”
Mr Toobu added “this was an offense committed by political people, it was an offense committed by people who were sitting under the president, because the president himself was there, so the president must have supervised all these things with his aura and his power.”
According to him, “when the President is there and something is happening, who dare you a policeman to go and say you are expecting to arrest.”
