The Parent Association chairman of Bankyease Municipal Assembly (M/A) school in the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipality of the Western Region Daniel Kwame Boakye has expressed worry over the continuous use of the school’s compound for laying instate corpses.
According to Kwame Boakye, the school is saddled by waste and other unhygienic materials left uncollected by the mourners putting pressure on them to clean the mess caused by bereaved families and mourners.
“ Not a week passes by that the Bankyease community will not dress and lay instate corpses within the school’s premises, we have on several occasions complained to the assembly member to stop people from that practice but nothing has been done about this”, he lamented.
The school on countless occasions has vehemently opposed this practice which has become the norm of the community dwellers to use the confines of the school as their funeral grounds.
Speaking to Empire News, the Parent Association chairman Daniel Kwame Boakye noted that practice is unhygienic to the health of the pupils adding that they have suggested other grounds around which the residents can use, yet they are adamant.
Mr Boakye want the environmental health and waste management department at the Effia-Kwesimintsin assembly to stop the community from using the school’s compound for such activities
However, the assembly member for the West Tanokrom electoral area Emmanuel Tobis finds no issue with the practice since it is held during the weekend when school is not in session. He argues that the community has no grounds to hold such events other than the school compound.
He further noted that the practice is being done with the support of the assembly thus he is unable to prohibit people from holding funerals at the school premises.
