Lions Club International Foundation, a non-profit charity organization in a commendable humanitarian gesture has provided support to victims of the Akosombo dam spillage floods in the Volta region.
The foundation through its local district, Lions International District 418-Ghana visited Mepe in the North Tongu district and Keta areas to distribute relief items to victims with effective collaboration with the MPs for these areas.
Food items including bags of rice, gari, clean water, hygiene kits to the tune of $10,000 was distributed to about 900 households in the affected districts.
The support from the group is intended to offer a message of hope and solidarity to the people of Mepe and Keta and to assure the victims that they are not alone in their struggle, and that there is a global community standing with them.
The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa in an interview with Starrfm.com.gh intimated that, “In a time where attention and support has waned from the public. This support comes at a critical time, as our communities continue to grapple with the aftermath of the flooding and work to rebuild their lives. The contribution from Lions Clubs International Foundation will be instrumental in addressing immediate needs impacted by this unfortunate disaster.”
Member of Parliament for Keta, Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey in a reaction to the gesture said, “We are happy that, amidst the hardships, there is a ray of hope shining through, as Lions International District 418 – Ghana, stepped in to offer crucial assistance to those affected in my constituency.”
The gesture according to the District Governor, Lion Kate Baba Hudson further underscores the commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of those facing adversity.
She said, “Lions serving as a helping paw in times of crisis with the donation of items worth $10.000 donation to the Akosombo Dam Spillage victims exemplifies the power of our collective action.”
“It demonstrates Lions’ ability to mobilize resources quickly and effectively in times of crisis, making a tangible difference in the lives of those affected,” she stressed.
