Ghanaian social media personality Firdaus Iddrisu, popularly known as Shatta Bandle, has issued a public apology to the Nigerian public and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following an incident involving the spraying of Naira notes in Lagos.
The controversy began when Shatta Bandle was seen in a viral video spraying Naira notes in public during his recent visit to Nigeria for the funeral of Nigerian actor Mr. Ibu on June 28. This act has drawn significant attention due to Nigeria’s strict regulations against the abuse of its currency.
Earlier this year, a similar incident saw Nigerian celebrity Bobrisky arrested by the EFCC for spraying cash at a movie premiere, a move deemed as currency mutilation and abuse by the authorities.
In response to the backlash, Shatta Bandle expressed deep remorse for his actions, clarifying that his intent was never to violate Nigerian laws. He explained that he initially began by spraying dollar notes but switched to Naira when the dollars ran out, inadvertently leading to the infraction.
“I apologize to you people; I didn’t come to break laws because Nigeria is my next home. I apologize to everybody, especially EFCC, to forgive me for what I have done,” Shatta Bandle said in his statement, emphasizing his respect for both the EFCC and Nigerian laws.
