Three unidentified persons have been reported dead following a gruesome accident that occurred on Saturday evening at East Legon, Accra. According to CCTV footage, the accident was caused by overspeeding, which led to a fatal collision.
ADO Nartey, an officer with the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), confirmed that one body has been retrieved, while firefighters continue efforts to extricate another body trapped in the wreckage. The victims were traveling in an Artura vehicle.
A video posted on the GNFS Facebook page shows firefighters using specialized equipment to cut through the charred remains of the vehicles, with smoke still billowing from the scene. Among the victims are two young women, whose bodies were burnt beyond recognition.
The crash reportedly occurred when one of the vehicles involved struck a wooden electric pole. The impact caused the pole’s electrical cables to fall, sparking the fire that engulfed the vehicles. Both vehicles were completely destroyed by the flames.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the accident, which occurred on Saturday afternoon, leaving the East Legon community in shock. Identification of the victims is still pending.
