Nations FC were held by Bibiani Gold Stars in an exciting match day 6 fixture at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex on Sunday to take over the top spot in the Ghana Premier League.

A goal in either half of the game ensured the spoils were shared at Abrankese as both teams remain unbeaten this season.

Nations’ Faisal Charwetey broke the deadlock after thirty-one minutes. Barima Baah was in the penalty box as the hosts launched a quick counterattack. Vincent Atinga’s erroneous clearing made sure the ball found Charwetey, who finished calmly.

After returning from recess, the Miners found their rhythm in the game and aimed for an equalizer. In the 80th minute, their pressure paid off as they successfully pushed the Nations back, and Kelvin Oppong scored to restore parity.

After the goal, Gold Stars withstood pressure from Mingle’s team to secure a vital point that put them atop the league rankings with 12 points.

Meanwhile, Hearts of Oak secured a 2-1 victory over Young Apostles at Wenchi Sports Stadium, securing their return to winning ways in the Premier League.

The Phobians took the lead in the 48th minute through Emmanuel Amankwah’s goal after a prolonged period of pressure. Samuel Prempeh, however, pulled parity for the home side in the 84th minute with an excellent finish.

Two minutes after the equalizer, Hamza Issah scored the match-winning goal in the 86th minute to hand the Phobians their first away win of the season.

The victory lifts Hearts of Oak to 8th on the table, while Young Apostles slip into the relegation zone.
