Spokesperson for the Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia Campaign, Dennis Miracles Aboagye is calling for a reset following the party’s disastrous election results. He believes low voter turnout was a great challenge.
It follows the Electoral Commission declaring John Dramani Mahama as President-elect with 6,328,397 votes, representing 56.55% of the valid votes cast, defeating his main rival, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who secured 4,657,304 votes, representing 41.61%.
Speaking to Serwaa Amihere on GHOne TV today, December 13, 2024, Dennis Miracles Aboagye who said they were shocked by the results noted that it presents an opportunity for the team to reset.
“The turnout is an issue, but for me, that cannot be used as justification. The responsibility to get people to turn out is also part of the campaign. I agree with that point. If people didn’t turn out, it’s still a reflection of the campaign’s inability to do a comprehensive and holistic job. So, what I’m saying is that we take full responsibility, without reservation. It was our job to get it done.”
“We will analyze and thoroughly understand what happened, then build on that and come back stronger. I mean, John Mahama has bounced back from a 1 million loss to a 1.6 million lead. Maybe we underestimated the anger of Ghanaians. We knew people were facing difficulties and challenges, which is why we tailored our manifesto to address those issues.”
Mr. Aboagye also downplayed Mussa Dankwa’s polls, comparing them to a lottery forecast that got lucky. According to him, Mussa Dankwa’s polls are unreliable and show clear bias.
Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North, Andy Appiah-Kubi, is demanding the establishment of a committee to investigate the failure.
