Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam is expected to present the mini-budget for the first quarter of 2025 in Parliament today, Thursday, January 2, 2025, after a prolonged delay.
The presentation of the mini-budget, which had been expected earlier, was delayed after Dr. Adam failed to deliver it before the close of the current parliamentary session.
This delay led Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, to adjourn proceedings to January 2, 2025.
The mini-budget is a constitutional requirement that provides a fiscal outlook for the upcoming year, addressing key economic issues such as revenue mobilization, expenditure priorities, and strategies for fiscal consolidation.
The document’s approval will enable funding for government operations during the first quarter of 2025.
The delay in presenting the mini-budget has raised concerns, with the Minority accusing the government of intentionally stalling the presentation to frustrate the incoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.
Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has reassured Ghanaians that the incoming government is prepared to handle the country’s finances, but cautioned that the outgoing administration will be held responsible for any unmet state commitments and obligations from January 1 to January 7, 2025.
