The Minister-Designate for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare has highlighted that the NDC’s 24-hour economy will solve the challenges that faced the ‘1 District 1 Factory’ (1D1F) policy that was started by the outgone NPP administration.
Addressing the vetting panel in Parliament on Wednesday, the minister designated noted that the factories that were borne out of the 1D1F policy lacked raw materials, and that the companies have not been able to operate the way government intended that it be.
“1D1F is a programme for Ghanaians by the government of Ghana. It has its pluses and minuses. For the plus, the 1D1F set up factories where individuals could add value to our raw materials. And these Agro producing factories started, but because of some challenges, we have not been able to do what was expected of them.” She said.
She added that “even though government support them with input, the factories lacked the capital to operate. But we all know that every problem has a solution”.
Owing to these challenges, Adjare revealed that the 24-hour economy policy, which is yet to be fully operationalized, will solve the raw material problem through the commercial contract farming. ‘The companies under the 1D1F policy will sign up to the 24hour economy policy and thus will benefit from the resource availability” She Added.
The One District One Factory (1D1F) policy is a Ghanaian government initiative that aimed to transform the country’s economy from raw material imports and exports to manufacturing and exporting processed goods. The policy was introduced in 2016 by the New Patriotic Party.
