Executive Director of the Veteran Administration Ghana, Captain Ben Duah (Rtd), has called for a deeper appreciation of the sacrifices made by the ex-soldiers who lost their lives during the 28th February crossroad shooting incident.
The veterans expressed gratitude to Vice President Prof. Nana Jane Opoku-Agyemang for her continuous support and appealed to corporate organizations to support their activities.
The 28th February Crossroad shooting remains one of the darkest chapters in Ghana’s post-independence history.
On that fateful day in 1948, three soldiers — Sergeant Adjeitey, Corporal Atipoe, and Private Odartey Lamptey — were gunned down at the infamous Crossroad in Accra while they were part of a demonstration to protest against the British colonial government’s policies.
Their tragic deaths sparked widespread outrage and marked a turning point in Ghana’s struggle for independence.
At the 77th anniversary, Executive Director of the Veteran Administration Ghana, Captain Ben Duah (Rtd), urged Ghanaians to honor the sacrifices of the ex-soldiers, who risked their lives and ultimately gave them, as a means of ensuring peace and security for the nation.
Captain Duah took the opportunity to also express gratitude to Vice President, Prof. Nana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, for her unwavering support to veterans and their families over the years.
“The sacrifice was for the people of Ghana. So why should we limit appreciation to the government? Every Ghanaian should be involved in showing gratitude. In other countries, this is a norm, but unfortunately, here, people are either unaware or indifferent,” Captain Duah stated.
The 28th February Crossroad Incident is a critical part of Ghana’s history, reminding the nation of the sacrifices made by those who fought for freedom and justice.
