Black Stars’ technical advisor, Winfried Schäfer, is committed to guiding Ghana to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, stressing the importance of teamwork, discipline, and a strong winning mentality.
The 74-year-old who was appointed in January, brings a wealth of experience, having guided Cameroon to Africa Cup of Nations triumph in 2002.
Speaking to GFA media, Schafer emphasized the importance of unity within the squad.
“Not the best players win matches, but the best teams do.”
He acknowledged Ghana’s rich talent pool and encouraged players to prioritize national pride over personal accomplishments.
Schafer’s leadership will be essential, though, since Ghana currently sits second in Group I and faces Chad and Madagascar in crucial qualifiers.
He emphasized his role as a support system for head coach Otto Addo, providing valuable insights to strengthen the team.
“Otto Addo is the head coach, and I am here to assist. We work together, discuss ideas, and ensure the players feel valued,” he added.
Schafer, however, called on Ghanaians to rally behind the team.
“We need your support. Ghana is a football land, and we must return to the top.”
