The Ministry of the Interior has imposed a curfew on Binduri Township and its surrounding areas in the Upper East Region, effective Monday, March 24, 2025. The curfew, which runs from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM, follows recent violent incidents, including reported shootings that have heightened security concerns in the area.
The curfew was implemented on the advice of the Upper East and North East Regional Security Councils and by Executive Instrument. The government has urged chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, and the youth to remain calm and use non-violent means to address disputes.
In addition to the curfew, the Interior Ministry has announced a total ban on carrying arms, ammunition, or offensive weapons within Binduri and its environs. The directive also prohibits men from wearing smocks and riding motorbikes, as these have been linked to security threats in the region. Anyone found violating these measures will be arrested and prosecuted.
The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, in a statement, urged residents to cooperate with security agencies to restore peace and order.
Security forces have been deployed to enforce the curfew and ensure compliance with the new restrictions. Authorities have assured residents that the measures are temporary and aim to prevent further violence while working toward a lasting resolution to the conflict.
