If Footballers Were Stocks, Who Would You Invest In? Lawrence Ati-Zigi Has His Picks

If footballers were stocks, who would be worth your hard-earned cash? Ghana’s goalkeeper and FC St. Gallen shot-stopper, Lawrence Ati-Zigi, has a clear investment strategy and it’s all about betting on potential.

The Black Stars goalkeeper, known for his commanding presence between the posts, recently opened up to MeCarreira about his picks for the football world’s next big blue chip prospects.

Zigi confidently without skipping a beat said he would invest in young talents.
“In my team I could recommend Enoch Owusu, he was playing in Inter Milan and he came here (St. Gallen Fc, Switzerland) as a young talent and for me I think he has very good potentials”.

Enoch Owusu, the Italian-born Ghanaian winger, began his career at Inter Milan and is now on loan at FC St. Gallen’s U21 side. Though still young, Owusu is already making waves in Switzerland, with 2 goals in 7 appearances this season.

“He is really a special player and he is very strong, he is aggressive, he has really good explosions and all of that. I think he will make a very great career”, Zigi praised.

Owusu, admired for his blistering pace, technical flair, and vision, is already being tipped as one to watch by those in the know. For Zigi, Owusu is a clear “buy and hold” on the football investment market.

But the goalkeeper’s portfolio doesn’t stop there.

Zigi also pointed out another hidden gem within St. Gallen’s ranks, Corsin Konietzke.

“He is also a very special player, a very dynamic player, he has really a lot of qualities. I think he is a ski a very big factor which could be a big investment for the football world”.

It’s no surprise that Zigi has a keen eye for talent. At 28, he’s been through the grind, climbing his way up the professional ladder since joining FC St. Gallen in 2020. His journey has been shaped by hard work, resilience and a role model who redefined modern goalkeeping: Manuel Neuer.

“Actually, I looked up to the senior players at the club, but most of it all I looked up to the real ones like the professional players, the biggest stars and this was Neuer. For me this the kind of person and kind of goalkeeper that I was really relying on because I see a lot of good things that he does in the game and he has a lot of abilities and a lot of things so he was mostly the one I was looking up to”, Zigi revealed.

And that hard work has paid off.

Before the Qatar 2022 World Cup, Zigi had what he considers his best season yet winning the Best Goalkeeper award in the Swiss Super League and earning his place among the elite. When injuries sidelined Ghana’s top keepers, Zigi stepped up on the biggest stage, delivering standout performances for the Black Stars.

“The best moment for me will be a season before I went to the World Cup, this was the best moment for me because I felt I had a good season. I won the best goalkeeper of the season and I think this was really the best moment for me to have made a step to somewhere else”.

Widely known as
THE WALL” in the Swiss Super League, the Gallen first choice goalkeeper shone in the UEFA Conference League, with fans heaping praise on him after some stellar saves especially in a memorable clash against Turkish side Trabzonspor.

Though St. Gallen is now out of the competition, Zigi’s reputation continues to rise. He’s not just commanding the goal, he’s also reading the game like a seasoned investor spotting value, trusting growth, and betting big on the future of African and European football.

So, if footballers were stocks, and Lawrence Ati-Zigi were your broker Enoch Owusu and Corsin Konietzke would be your golden tickets.
