Francis Nabegmado, the man held for the death of the head pastor of the Central Assemblies of God Church at Tema Community 4, Rev. Dr. David Nabegmado, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for murder.
Francis was convicted after a seven-member jury returned a unanimous verdict of guilt against him over the death of the man, said to be his uncle.
The accused (now convict) was said to have stabbed his uncle to death on Sunday morning, December 30, 2018, at the church premises, where he (the deceased) was preparing to deliver a sermon.
The deceased was accosted by an assailant, said to be his nephew, while moving from the church office into the main auditorium for the day’s service at about 9 a.m.
Rev. Nabegmado was scheduled to minister to the church on Sunday, December 30, 2018, when the incident occurred.

Rev. Nabegmado died at the Tema General Hospital, where he was taken for treatment.
The police arrested Francis Nabegmado and also retrieved the weapon—a knife—which was used to stab Rev. Nabegmado, along with a half-bottle of Kasapreko, turpentine in a Voltic bottle, and matches.
While the prosecution, led by Frederick Adu-Gyamfi, a Senior State Attorney, called five witnesses, the accused called one witness.
In his defense, the accused, now convict, said he had no hand in his uncle’s death and claimed he was killed by a spirit.
Before his conviction, Francis prayed to the court to be taken to Yendi to see his family.
“My lady, what I have to tell the court is that I want to be taken to my family in Yendi,” he said, appealing to the court to be taken to the prisons in Yendi.
However, the court presided over by Justice Mary Maame Ekue Yanzuh said that should be taken care of by the prison authorities.
Meanwhile, the current Senior Pastor of the Assemblies of God Church in Tema Community, Rev. Emmanuel Kwesi Ofori, welcomed the decision, saying justice has been served.
