Members of the Minority Caucus in Parliament today, June 4, marched to the Police Headquarters in Accra to petition the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) over the protracted delay in declaring the parliamentary election results for Ablekuma North.
Led by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin and Chief Whip Frank Annor Dompreh, the group described the delay as unacceptable and called for swift action to break the deadlock.
The Ablekuma North seat has remained vacant since January 2025, following a disputed outcome in the December 2024 general elections. Both the NDC’s Ewurabena Aubynn and the NPP’s Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie have separately claimed victory.
The Electoral Commission (EC) suspended the collation process on January 5, 2025, citing interference at the centre and the submission of unverifiable results. Since then, no final results have been announced, leaving the constituency without parliamentary representation.

Efforts to resolve the impasse continued last week when the EC held consultations with the Ghana Police Service on May 30. However, no clear timeline has been announced, raising concerns among constituents and political observers.
While the NDC has demanded a rerun of the election due to compromised integrity, the NPP insists that results from the initial polls should be upheld.

The stalemate has fueled frustration among residents of Ablekuma North, who say the extended delay is undermining their right to representation and weakening public confidence in the electoral system.
