The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), Technical University Teachers Association of Ghana (TUTAG), and Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) have warned government to begin payment of book and research allowances by June 13, 2025, or face a nationwide strike.
They expressed concern over the delay in making the payments, stating that it has caused significant uncertainty and frustration among our members, who depend on this critical support for their research and academic work.
The unions stated that at a meeting held on June 8, they unanimously resolved that the government must act immediately to avoid industrial action.
They stressed that the book and research allowance is a legally mandated component of their Conditions of Service and a critical resource for teaching, research, and academic advancement.
They further urged the government to act swiftly to avert disruption of the academic calendar and safeguard the welfare of educators and the broader academic community.
