Supreme Court nominee, Justice Senyo Dzamefe, has underscored the need for clearly defined timelines in court proceedings to minimise unnecessary delays in Ghana’s justice delivery system.
Appearing before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Monday, 16th June 2025, Justice Dzamefe expressed concern about the extended duration of some cases – particularly those he described as “very simple” – that should be resolved swiftly.
“We must set timelines for cases. Let’s say, criminal cases, very simple cases, there must be a timeline. And then the parties, as well as the funders, that will be accredited,” he stated.
Justice Dzamefe further advocated for the integration of modern technology into courtrooms to enhance efficiency and transparency. He called for investment in tools such as artificial intelligence, voice recording systems, and automated transcription services.

“We must go technology. We need the tools. Time of long handwriting is past. So we have to go to AI tools like voice recording and transcriptions, so that by the end of the day, records are ready,” he said.
In addition to technological advancement, the nominee proposed the expansion of judicial infrastructure through the establishment of more courts and improved resource allocation. According to him, such reforms—when paired with accountability and efficiency measures—can significantly improve access to justice across the country.
Justice Dzamefe’s suggestions formed part of broader deliberations on judicial reform, transparency, and public confidence in the legal system.
