President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Mr. Henry Larbi Kwaku Nyanteh, Principal of Br. Tarcisus Prosthetics and Orthotics Training College (BTPOTC) in Nsawam, Eastern Region, as a board member of Allied Health Professions Council.

Henry Larbi Nyanteh, a pioneering member of the Ghana Federation of Allied Health Professionals, brings extensive expertise quick in physical rehabilitation to the Council.

His appointment is expected to enhance the Council’s contribution to healthcare delivery in Ghana, particularly in the regulation and advancement of the allied health services.

The Br. Tarcisius Prosthetics and Orthotics Training College, established on November 1, 2012, is a Ministry of Health institution affiliated with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). It offers diploma programmes in Prosthetics and Orthotics Technology aimed at training skilled professionals in the field.

Mr. Henry Larbi Nyanteh who is also Executive Director for Kabaka Foundation joins a ten-member Governing Board of the Allied Health Professions Council chaired by Prof. Clement Desmond Kotei Addison. Other members include Dr. Issahaku Shirazu, Torgbi Dr. Adedze-Kpodo, Dr. Dennis Adu-Gyasi, Dr. Abdul Nashirudeen Mumuni, Dr. Ignatius Awinibuno, Dr. Vivian Della Atuwo-Ampoh, Agnes Naakwaley Quartey-Papafio, and Members of Parliament Millicent Yeboah Amankwah and Oscar Ofori Larbi.

The Allied Health Professions Council Governing Board was inaugurated on Friday, July 11, alongside five other Boards under the Ministry of Health — the National Blood Service Board, National Ambulance Service Board, Mental Health Authority Board, Ghana College of Pharmacists Council, and the Traditional Medicine Practice Council.

As part of the inauguration ceremony held at the Ministry of Health Auditorium in Accra, the Ministry announced the appointment of chairpersons for the various boards. They include: Dr. Emmanuel Maurice Ankrah – National Blood Service Board, Dr. Dan Bazanndut – Mental Health Authority Board, Prof. Francis Ackah Armah – Ghana College of Pharmacists Council, Prof. Eric Kotei Addison – Allied Health Professions Council and Prof. Ato Duncan – Traditional Medicine Practice Council.

Addressing the ceremony, Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, commended the new appointees and expressed confidence in their ability to strengthen regulation, enhance professionalism, and improve inter-agency coordination within Ghana’s healthcare system.

The Minister outlined priority areas including closing the country’s annual blood supply deficit of 120,000 units, addressing the treatment gap for over 2.3 million Ghanaians with mental health conditions, regulating the traditional medicine sector which serves over 60% of the population, and resolving the shortage of pharmacists and allied health professionals.

He charged the new Boards to pursue transformative reforms and elevate standards in their respective sectors.

The Chief Director of the Ministry, Mr. Desmond Boateng, welcomed the appointees, urging them to offer bold and visionary leadership, embrace innovation, and work collaboratively to improve healthcare delivery nationwide.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to providing the necessary policy direction, coordination, and resources to empower the new Boards to fulfill their mandates effectively.

The Ministry extended its congratulations to all newly inaugurated Board and Council members and expressed optimism about a strengthened, inclusive, and high-quality healthcare system for all Ghanaians.
