The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested 258 suspects in connection with the violent disturbances in Nsawam-Adoagyiri in the Eastern Region on July 7, 2026.
The swoop was carried out through a joint security operation involving the Eastern South Regional Police Command and a team from the National Police Operations Directorate as investigations into the unrest continue.
A statement issue by the Public Relations Officer of Eastern South Police Command,DSP David Fianko explained that the Police, preliminary investigations suggest that some youth allegedly went on a rampage, looting shops, setting an Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) transformer ablaze, vandalising the Oko Anadwo Palace and an astro turf facility, and robbing several mobile money vendors.
The incidents reportedly created widespread fear and panic among residents.
During the operation, officers recovered two locally manufactured firearms, quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, suspected tramadol and Viagra tablets, as well as several mobile phones believed to be relevant to the investigations.
The 258 suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations, while authorities work to identify those directly involved in the various criminal acts committed during the disturbances.
The Eastern South Regional Police Command has assured residents that adequate security measures have been put in place to protect lives and property in the municipality.
Police have also appealed to the public to volunteer any information that could aid ongoing investigations and urged residents, particularly the youth, to remain law-abiding and avoid acts capable of disrupting public peace and security.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order and bringing all those responsible for the violence to justice.
“Eastern South Regional Police Command assures residents that adequate security measures remain in place to safeguard lives and property and urges anyone with information that may assist the investigation to report to the nearest Police Station. The Command also cautions all residents, particularly the youth, to remain law-abiding and refrain from acts that threaten public peace and security”. The statement said.
