Immediate past Ledzokuku Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mordecai Abusuayedom Quarshie, has admitted that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) failed to properly represent and defend former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during the 2024 election campaign.
Speaking on The Verdict with Isaac Addae on Starr 103.5 FM on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, Mr Quarshie said that although the president was a major factor in the party’s defeat, the NPP itself did not do enough to shield his legacy or manage his image during the campaign.
“Right now, I know we don’t like him. It’s clear. We couldn’t represent him,” he stated bluntly.
He added that Nana Addo had to fight extremely hard during his tenure, and that effort came with its share of backlash, which eventually affected public perception and the party’s fortunes at the polls.
“He had to fight very, very, very, very hard, and part of the negatives of that struggle is what we are seeing now.”

Despite these setbacks, Mr Quarshie expressed hope that public opinion would shift in favour of the former president with time.
“In the next two or three years… when Ghanaians can now compare and weigh, they might find that there are certain things about Nana Addo’s government [they can appreciate],” he said.
He encouraged the NPP to reflect, regroup, and recommit to serving the nation, stressing the need for unity and long-term strategy.

“What’s important is that NPP, we unite, we come together, and we commit to service to humanity, not our own.”
Mr Quarshie concluded by calling for patience and a fair comparison between administrations, insisting that time would reveal the full impact of Akufo-Addo.
