Sissala Union applauds President Mahama’s renewed commitment to road infrastructure

The Sissala Union has expressed its heartfelt appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for his renewed commitment to enhancing road infrastructure in the Sissala area.

In a statement signed by its President, Mahamud Bakah Aduna, the Union described the initiative as a critical step toward boosting economic development and improving the livelihoods of residents.

This recognition, announced by the Minister for Finance and Economic Planning, Dr. Cassel Ato Forson, during the Mid-Year Fiscal Policy Review of the 2025 Budget Statement to Parliament on July 24, 2025, marks a significant milestone for the Sissala communities.

The Union believes this development was influenced by the recent visit of the Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Governs Agboadza, and his Deputy, Hon. Alhassan Suhuyini, to the area.

As a development-focused and non-partisan voice for the Sissala people, the Union has long advocated for improved road infrastructure—a long-standing need dating back to the inception of the Fourth Republic.

The Sissala area, which borders Burkina Faso, is rich in natural resources, blessed with fertile agricultural land, and renowned for producing some of the finest maize in the sub-region. It plays a vital role in Ghana’s food security and economic resilience.

For over three decades, successive governments have received petitions from the Union regarding the area’s infrastructure needs, often without concrete results. Therefore, the inclusion of the Sissala area in the government’s “Big Push” flagship initiative is both heartening and deeply appreciated.

The Union also lauded the nomination of Sissala indigene and Member of Parliament for Sissala West, Mohammed Adams Sukparu, as Deputy Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation.

On behalf of the Chiefs and people of the Sissala area, the Union extended its profound gratitude to President Mahama for listening to and addressing their long-standing concerns. However, the Union stressed that road development must go beyond promises; calling for the selection of competent contractors, timely release of funds, strict monitoring, and active community engagement to ensure sustainable, high-quality outcomes.

They further urged the President to invest in the sustainable exploitation of the area’s natural resources, such as gold and iron ore, and to enhance agricultural development for the broader socio-economic advancement of both the Sissala area and the nation at large.
