The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced special concessions for female aspirants and persons living with disabilities in its upcoming parliamentary primaries for the Tamale Central Constituency by-election.
In a press release issued on August 20, 2025, and signed by General Secretary, Hon. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the Party said aspirants are required to pay GH¢5,000 for nomination forms and GH¢40,000 as a filing fee. However, female aspirants and persons with disabilities will enjoy a 50 percent reduction on the filing fee.
The NDC indicated that nomination forms can only be collected and submitted at the Party’s Northern Regional Office. A certified copy of the delegates list will also be made available to aspirants after vetting.
The Party released the official timetable for the primaries and urged aspirants and stakeholders to strictly adhere to the schedules. It further emphasized that payments must be made into the Party’s official account at UMB Bank, Adabraka branch, warning that cheques and bank drafts will not be accepted.
The upcoming by-election follows the tragic death of the sitting MP, Hon. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, who died in a helicopter crash on August 6, 2025. The Electoral Commission has fixed September 30, 2025, for the by-election.
Meanwhile, the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced that it will not be contesting, citing respect for the late MP and the prevailing atmosphere of mourning. Political observers, however, note that the NDC has traditionally enjoyed strong support in Tamale Central.
The NDC has urged aspirants to conduct their campaigns with unity, fairness, and decorum to safeguard the integrity of the Party’s internal processes.
