The Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Sam George, has extended by one week the deadline for the stakeholder committee reviewing DSTv subscription fees in Ghana.
The committee, which began work on September 8, 2025, will now submit its final report on September 29 instead of the earlier September 22 deadline.
According to a statement from the National Communications Authority (NCA) on Tuesday, September 23, the extension will allow the committee to complete wider consultations and ensure its recommendations fully respond to public concerns about DSTv pricing.
The committee’s mandate covers three key areas: establishing a shared understanding of DSTv’s pricing structure in Ghana, proposing commercially viable measures acceptable to all parties, and developing a roadmap to curb cross-border piracy of DSTv decoders and services from Nigeria.
The NCA noted that while significant progress has been made, additional time was necessary to harmonise stakeholder positions.
“Whilst the Committee has made significant progress, it has requested an extension of one week to complete its work, which extension has been granted by the Honourable Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations. Consequently, the outcome of the Committee’s work is expected to be presented by 29th September, 2025.”
The review follows growing public pressure over the affordability of DSTv subscriptions in Ghana and complaints about illegal access to the service through Nigerian decoders.
