Flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has declared that he would never concede defeat in any election until the Electoral Commission (EC) officially announces the final results.
Speaking during his campaign tour of the Savannah Region, Mr. Agyapong emphasized that true political leadership requires courage and resilience, not premature surrender.
His comment comes in reaction to the 2024 presidential election, where then-NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, conceded defeat before the EC’s declaration to avoid political tension.
Mr. Agyapong, however, rejected that approach, insisting that the NPP needs a “bold” leader who can stand firm in the face of challenges and match the opposition’s strength on the ground.
He said, “The way I love NPP, there’s no way I will do something to undermine the party. I’ve been charged with treason because of NPP, so I will never do something to destroy the NPP. From 1992 till date, no one has supported NPP with both body and soul and cash than me. So don’t listen to anyone who has no message for you than to destroy my personality for his campaign.”
Mr. Agyapong argued that the NPP’s future depends on fearless leadership capable of defending the party’s interests during elections.
“The party needs someone who can contend the NDC over their vigilante attitude, else we’ll stay in opposition. So you all should choose the bold candidate. If I were the Presidential candidate, I would not and never accept defeat until the EC declares the results. That’s not how we do politics; we need a bold man to lead the party,” he stressed.
