A security expert Dr Emmanuel Kwesi Aning has lauded Ghana’s president-elect, Nana Akufo-Addo, for appointing a minister responsible for security.
Nana Addo on Wednesday disclosed at a press briefing that Mr. Albert Kan-Dapaah is the Minister-designate for the new intelligence outfit.
Mr. Kan-Dapaah was a former Interior Minister under the erstwhile Kufuor administration. He will be working with Brigadier General Emmanuel Okyere as the National Security Advisor and a former Director of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), Joshua Kyeremeh, as the National Security Coordinator.
“By appointing a substantive security minister, it is good for the rule of law because parliament can hold the security and intelligence services accountable,” Dr. Aning told Onua FM.
He added: “Furthermore, this fulfils the requirements under Act 526 of 1996.”
According to him, the planned security structure is a “good move by the President, especially taking into consideration the fact that Dr. Sam Amoo under former President John Agyekum Kufuor, both late President John Atta Mills and out-going President John Dramani Mahama, never appointed a substantive Security Minister”.

Meanwhile, a former National Security Advisor, Brigadier General Nunoo Mensah has also commended Nana Addo, saying those he has appointed are the right people for the job.
“Nana Akufo-Addo has made the right choice… I know Mr. Kan Dapaah very well, he is a very astute man and has the competence for the office he is going to head.
“I wish them well and I believe they will be able to serve and protect the nation well,” the former Chief of Defense Staff told Accra-based Citi FM.
