Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has inaugurated an 11-member Ministerial Oversight Committee to supervise Ghana’s preparation and participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The ceremony took place at Jubilee House on Wednesday, November 26.
Speaking to the committee, Mr. Debrah stressed the importance of integrity, commitment, and a forward-looking approach.
“The road to 2030 begins now. This oversight committee must lead with accountability, speed, and national consciousness. The time for scattered efforts is over… Let us lead with clarity. Let us act with urgency. Let us project Ghana with discipline and pride,” he said.
Ghana secured qualification for the 2026 World Cup with a 1–0 victory over Comoros on October 12, marking the Black Stars’ fifth appearance at the global showpiece since 2006.
The committee comprises representatives from key ministries and organizations, including:
- Office of the President – Stan Xoese Dogbe
- Sports and Recreation – Hon. Kofi Adams
- Foreign Affairs – Samuel O. Ablakwa
- Youth Development – George Opare
- Tourism and Culture – Yusif Jajah (Deputy Minister)
- Finance Ministry – Ampem Nyarkoh (Deputy Minister)
- Ghana Football Association – Kurt Okraku (Chairman)
- Deputy National Security Coordinator – Elizabeth Yankah
- Former Footballer – Abedi Pele
- Sports Ministry – Wilhelmina Asamoah (Chief Director)

The government has allocated GH¢150 million to support the Black Stars’ preparations.
Mr. Debrah highlighted that the committee’s work extends beyond football. “It is about what we do with the four years leading up to it and four years that follow… Let us correct what must be corrected and amplify what can be built.”
