Ghana’s senior women’s national team, the Black Queens, have been drawn into Group D of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where they will face Cameroon, Mali and debutants Cape Verde. The tournament will be hosted in Morocco.
The official draw ceremony was attended by Black Queens head coach and team captain, Portia Boakye, underscoring Ghana’s readiness and ambition ahead of the continental showpiece.
Organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations remains the premier women’s football competition on the continent. Beyond continental glory, the tournament also serves as a vital platform for showcasing Africa’s top female football talent and as a qualification pathway to the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Matches at WAFCON 2026 will be staged across several of Morocco’s top stadiums, including the Moulay Al Hassan Stadium and Al Madina Stadium in Rabat, the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca, and the Complexe Sportif de Fès in Fès.
Group D is expected to be highly competitive, with Cameroon and Mali both established forces in African women’s football. Cape Verde, meanwhile, will make history with their first-ever appearance at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, marking a significant milestone for the newly established team on the continental stage.
As preparations begin, the Black Queens will be aiming to navigate a challenging group and make a strong statement in their quest for continental success and a return to the global stage.
