The Ghana Cocoa Coffee Sheanut Farmers Association (COCOSHE) has appealed to cocoa farmers to remain calm and avoid demonstrations following recent adjustments in producer prices and delays in payments for cocoa delivered to the Ghana Cocoa Board (Cocobod).
In a statement signed by Alhaji Alhassan Bukari, National Chief Farmer, the association acknowledged the concerns of farmers but emphasized patience while leadership engages with the government and Cocobod to resolve the issues.
“We fully understand the concerns and frustrations of our members. Your welfare remains our top priority, and leadership shares in your disappointment. However, we strongly urge all farmers to refrain from demonstrations and remain calm,”* the statement said.
COCOSHE highlighted that ongoing discussions with the government and Cocobod aim to restore stability in the cocoa sector and safeguard farmers’ incomes.
“The Association is actively engaging Government, the Ghana Cocoa board (Cocobod) and other stakeholders to address farmers’ concerns and support the recovery and long-term stability of the cocoa sector,” the statement added.
The Association urged farmers to focus on farming activities while leadership negotiates on their behalf.
“We assure you that leadership is working tirelessly on your behalf, and we encourage all members to remain united, patient and focused on their farming activities while discussions continue. Together, we will protect and strengthen our livelihoods,” Alhaji Bukari said.
He concluded with a message of solidarity and encouragement, “May God bless our gallant cocoa farmers.”
COCOSHE’s statement comes amid mounting tensions in the sector, highlighting the association’s commitment to dialogue and protecting farmers’ interests while ensuring the long-term sustainability of cocoa production in Ghana.
