The National Youth Authority (NYA) has strongly condemned recent incidents of violence among students during inter-school activities, emphasizing the need for discipline and lawful conduct.
His comment comes after a student of Obrachire Senior High Technical School was hospitalized following an alleged assault during the District Schools Athletics Competition in Agona Swedru, and six students from Aggrey Memorial Senior High School were arrested in connection with the alleged attack on a final-year student of Adisadel College.
In a statement signed by Osman A. Ayariga, Acting Chief Executive Officer of the NYA, the Authority ommended the swift intervention of the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Education Service, noting that due process is being followed in all cases.
“Violence has no place in our schools or among our youth,” the statement read. “These actions undermine the values of discipline, respect, and healthy competition that school activities are meant to promote.”
The Authority also called on young people to uphold self-control and responsible behaviour, in line with the National Youth Policy, and confirmed its partnership with the National Peace Council to implement the Peace Ambassadors Initiative aimed at preventing similar incidents in second-cycle institutions.
“The NYA remains committed to promoting positive values and peaceful coexistence among Ghana’s youth,” the statement concluded.
