Shock and grief have engulfed residents of Ayamfuri in the Ayanfuri Traditional Area in the Upper Denkyira West District of the Western Region following the death of the Mmrantehene of the area, Nana Kwabena Okyere.
The sub-chief died on Friday, 9 May 2026 following an accidental discharge of a pump-action gun at a funeral ceremony.
According to police reports, the tragic incident occurred during the funeral rites of Abusuapanyin Kwasi Kwarteng when the chief accidentally discharged the pump-action gun.
The Police situation report from Ayanfuri Police Station under the Dunkwa-On-Offin Division continued that the late Nana Kwabena Okyere suffered a critical gunshot wound to the abdomen.
He was rushed to the Pentecost Hospital in Ayamfuri for emergency treatment but was pronounced dead while receiving care.
The incident has left mourners and residents in disbelief as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
His body has since been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy.
