The Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Johnson P. Asiama has appointed Mrs Matilda Asante-Asiedu, Second Deputy Governor, as his authorised representative on the Board of Directors of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod).
In a formal letter dated May 11, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Ghana Gold Board, Dr Asiama stated that Mrs Asante-Asiedu is to attend and fully participate in all GoldBod Board meetings on his behalf, with effect from Monday, May 11, 2026.
“I hereby appoint Mrs. Matilda Asante-Asiedu, Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, as my authorised representative to attend and fully participate in all Goldbod Board Meetings on my behalf, effective Monday, May 11, 2026,” the letter reads.
Dr Asiama noted that Mrs Asante-Asiedu has been duly nominated to represent his interests, contribute to deliberations, and exercise all rights and responsibilities vested in him as a member of the Board.
He requested that the necessary courtesies be extended to her to enable her to carry out the role effectively.
Under the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140), the Governor of the Bank of Ghana or a representative of the Governor not below the rank of a director may serve on the GoldBod Board.
The appointment aligns with this provision, formalising Bank of Ghana representation on the board of the state entity established to regulate and manage the purchase, assay, sale and export of gold, particularly from artisanal and small-scale miners.
Mrs Matilda Asante-Asiedu was sworn in as Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana in May 2025.
A Chartered Banker with nearly three decades of experience spanning banking, marketing communications, and media, she previously served as Group Head of Retail Banking at Access Bank Ghana.
She sits on the Monetary Policy Committee and oversees several key departments at the central bank.
The Ghana Gold Board was inaugurated in May 2025 as a strategic institution aimed at strengthening Ghana’s external reserves, formalising the gold trade, and supporting macroeconomic stability.
