Global mining company Newmont has been confirmed as a Bronze Sponsor of the African Minerals Policy Forum – Mining in Motion 2026 (AMPF–MiM 2026), scheduled for October 19–21 at the Destiny Arena in Accra.
The sponsorship will see Newmont executives participate in high-level discussions on policies, investment and operational frameworks to accelerate Africa’s mining sector and ensure mineral development delivers lasting economic benefits to host countries and communities.
The discussions will focus on strengthening local capacity, infrastructure, value chains and partnerships between governments, mining companies and domestic businesses.
Newmont is a major gold producer in Ghana, where its Ahafo operations contribute to gold production, employment and economic development. The company is also deepening its investment in the country through the Ahafo North mine, which commenced commercial production in October 2025.
The Ahafo North project represents an investment of approximately $950 million to $1.05 billion and has an initial mine life of 13 years. It is expected to produce between 275,000 and 325,000 ounces of gold annually during its first five years.
Newmont’s 2026 production guidance for the operation stands at approximately 315,000 ounces, with the processing plant continuing to ramp up and an updated pit design expected to support higher grades from the fourth quarter.
The mine’s development has also created employment opportunities, with the construction phase supporting approximately 4,500 jobs. Its operational phase is expected to sustain around 1,560 direct and contracted roles.

Ahafo North complements Newmont’s existing Ahafo South operations, forming an integrated mining district with combined annual production expected to reach approximately 750,000 ounces of gold.
The company is also advancing exploration and underground studies at Ahafo South as part of efforts to extend the district’s mine life beyond 2050 and sustain long-term investment, employment and supply-chain opportunities in Ghana.
At AMPF–MiM 2026, Newmont executives are expected to highlight how long-term investment, responsible production, local capacity development and value retention can support Ghana’s mining ambitions and contribute to sustainable economic growth across Africa.
The forum will bring together governments, investors and mining companies to explore ways of coordinating policies, strengthening regional value chains, mobilising infrastructure investment and promoting local mineral beneficiation and industrial development.
Africa is home to approximately 35 gold-producing countries, making regional cooperation a key focus of efforts to transform the continent’s mineral wealth into broader economic benefits.

AMPF–MiM 2026 is being convened under the leadership and patronage of the Ashanti Royal Family, with the Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, serving as a principal convening partner.
His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene and King of the Ashanti Kingdom of Ghana, is the patron of the forum.
