Government Spokesperson Raymond Tamekloe has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of incompetence in opposition, arguing that the party and its Minority in Parliament have been unable to produce evidence of misappropriation or impropriety against the current government.
He made the remarks on Morning Starr with Arafat Musah on Starr 103.5 FM on Monday, October 19, 2026, criticising the opposition for what he described as confusion and attempts to manufacture controversies without sufficient evidence.
“I have always maintained and insisted that I have not seen a group of people who have been so incompetent in government and somehow have managed to be even more incompetent in opposition,” he said.
Mr Tamekloe argued that the NPP and its Minority in Parliament had failed to conduct proper analyses to substantiate their allegations against the government.
According to him, the opposition had not presented concrete evidence to demonstrate misappropriation or impropriety, despite its repeated criticisms of the administration.
He accused the party of creating controversies over issues that, in his view, lacked sufficient substance.
“At least opportunity, they are brewing storms in teacups. They are going on fishing expeditions, hoping that they would catch some fish,” he said.
“Unfortunately for them, there is nothing in the river; there is no fish in the river to catch,” he added.
Mr Tamekloe maintained that the NPP’s approach reflected a lack of substantive issues with which to challenge the government, accusing the party of pursuing allegations without the evidence needed to support them.
He further argued that the NPP’s removal from office was a consequence of concerns about accountability, insisting that Ghanaians expected a different standard of governance.
The Government Spokesperson’s comments come amid recent exchanges between the NPP Minority and the government over the GH¢49.72 million spent on evacuating Ghanaians from South Africa and allegations of visa irregularities surrounding Ghana’s arrangements for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Minority has called for an independent audit of the evacuation expenditure and demanded a parliamentary inquiry into the World Cup visa controversy, while the Majority has maintained that the evacuation expenditure is fully documented and the Sports Ministry has denied wrongdoing.
