The Ghana Music Awards, for the past 26 years, has stood tall as the most prestigious and celebrated music event in the country.
Its consistency, influence, and contribution to shaping Ghana’s entertainment landscape are deeply respected. That said, there’s a growing need to enhance one important aspect of the show, regional representation in award presentations.
Over the years, we’ve observed that a select group of individuals, mostly from Accra, are repeatedly chosen to present awards on the night. These presenters are often respected figures, not only from the creative industry but also well known names from corporate, media, and public life. While they undoubtedly bring prestige and value to the event, the pattern tends to overlook equally influential personalities based in other parts of Ghana.
Kumasi, Takoradi, Tamale, and other regions have produced outstanding individuals across industries who command strong followings and influence. Imagine the pride and excitement for audiences in these regions if they saw their own personalities, whether in media, entertainment, business, or public service, presenting awards or appearing on the red carpet of such a widely televised event. That sense of inclusion matters.
Furthermore, the main sponsor of the Ghana Music Awards operates across all regions of Ghana. It would be a powerful brand alignment move to support this call for broader national inclusion on the stage, reflecting their own nationwide presence.
This suggestion is not a criticism but an invitation to further elevate an already successful platform. By diversifying the faces that grace the stage during award presentations, we reflect the full spirit of Ghana, a nation rich in talent, leadership, and cultural pride from every corner.
The Ghana Music Awards belongs to all of us. The more voices and regions it reflects, the greater the ownership and pride it inspires across the country.
