Mothers who gave birth on Christmas Day in the Ashanti Region have received fifty hampers of baby products in some selected hospitals, kind courtesy MTN Ghana Limited.
The Telecoms Company handed these gift hampers to the mothers on a surprise visit to the labor wards, O&G departments and Mother and Baby Units of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and the Kwadaso SDA Hospital.
The hampers contained assorted baby products including dipers, baby oils and creams, powerders, toileteries, baby toys, baby clothes, towels and other consumables.
This is the tenth time the company is doing these corporate social investments in resonance with the season’s spirit of giving.
With their lovely babies swaddled beside them, the mothers at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital told Ultimate News they felt special knowing that their children were born on a day set aside to remember the immaculate birth of Jesus Christ.
Millicent Dillimit, a mother who was excited to receive her hamper indicated that even though she was a Muslim she didn’t take the date of her delivery lightly acknowledging the essence of the day in the calendar of the Christian faith.
“Even though I am a Muslim, I know that if you give birth on December 25th, it is the day for the birth of Christ and that makes me happy,” she told reporter Ivan Heathcote – Fumador.
Anita Ofori Duah another mother who had delivered a ‘Christmas Child’ was grateful, “I wasn’t expecting anything today but I thank MTN for remembering me and my child.”
These mothers could be called fortunate as Out of eight births recorded at the Obstetrics and Gynecology Block of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, four were born still.
Sharing the figures with Ultimate News, Specialist Midwife Gifty Fokuo pointed out that though they had to work during the holidays, the joy and special attachment to babies born within the Christmas period presented a unique experience to all medics on the wards.
“It feels very special because 25th December is Christmas and when you deliver babies like that; you feel so excited. They share a birthday with Jesus Christ,” an elated Gifty shared.
At the Kwadaso SDA hospital, MTN further donated 20 hampers to mothers of babies born during Christmas.
MTN Head of Corporate Affairs Northern Business Division Mrs. Charity Darko pointed out the company was pleased to have put smiles on the faces of the mothers on the special occasion.
She explained, “Christmas is a season of giving and if mothers deliver on the 25th of December, it adds to the joy. Every year we take it upon ourselves as a corporate entity to visit selected hospitals nationwide to donate baby hampers to the mothers as they celebrate their new born babies.”
“We are excited they are very happy and appreciative of what MTN has done for them on this special day,” Charity added.
The fifty hampers valued at 600 cedis each, formed part of some 500 hampers being distributed to some 32 hospitals in all 16 regions of the country.
