The minority in parliament has issued a warning to private developers who wants to be awarded the contract to finance and complete the Saglemi housing project, cautioning them of consequences if the offer is accepted.
This warning follows the government’s decision to hand over the project to a private developer, despite strong opposition from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Addressing the issue, the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam George, revealed that over $20 million remained in an escrow account from the Brazilian government, intended to complete the project within three months. However, eight years later, the project remains unfinished.
Sam George accused the current administration of attempting to steal and sell the properties to their partners.
“The Akufo-Addo and Bawumia kleptocracy is looking to sell it to their cronies. They’re looking to steal those properties.” He stated.
He warned potential buyers not to buy the property.
“Well, I am issuing a warning to anyone who thinks he is going to buy. You buy at your own peril because you will not be able to take it on. We will not allow you to take that land.”
He further criticized the government’s lack of transparency and failure to consult with the local chiefs and people of Ningo, who originally provided the land for an affordable housing project.
“The people of Ningo will rise up in righteous indignation and say that you, the way you’ve stolen lands in Accra, you won’t steal Ningo lands.”
George also called on the Inspector General of Police, (IGP) Dampare, to take note of the situation, asserting that the people of Ningo would resist any government-supported attempts to take their land using all lawful and legitimate means.
“I’m serving to warn and notice that we will resist using all lawful and legitimate will and force and means at our disposal to stop any criminal supported and sponsored by the government to come onto our land.”
