The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) says it has in its possession incriminating recordings of Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame.
These accusations concern the ambulance trial of former Deputy Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.
Due to his supposed role in the purchase of faulty ambulances for Ghana, Dr. Forson is currently the target of legal action by the state. He is charged with causing the state to lose €2.4 million in revenue.
During cross-examination, third defendant Richard Jakpa stated that he had been contacted by the Attorney General at odd hours to provide testimony against Minority Leader Ato Forson in the ambulance case. Mr. Dame has disputed this assertion.
However, the NDC presented a 16-minute audio clip as proof of Mr. Jakpa’s assertions in the ambulance case against the Minority Leader on Tuesday during a news conference in Accra.
In the recorded audio, Mr. Dame and Richard Jakpa are heard discussing the assertions that Dame should make in court, with Dame allegedly giving Jakpa advice that is directed at Mr. Forson in particular.
In an address to reporters on Tuesday in Accra, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman of the NDC, said that the party has recordings that support Jakpa’s allegations that are more convincing.
“We have in our possession a series of recordings in which the Attorney-General, Godfred Dame, is clearly heard goading, urging, impressing upon and coaching Mr. Jakpa to bear false testimony against the Minority Leader, Dr. Ato Forson.”
“All of this desperate subornation by Mr. Dame is just because he is hellbent on securing the incarceration of the Minority Leader,” Mr. Nketiah added.
