The National Youth Organiser of the NPP Sammy Awuku has described as unfortunate claims by the respected clergyman and chairman of the National Peace Council Reverend Professor Emmanuel Asante that he feels unsafe in the country.
Professor Asante on Monday told Francis Abban that the activities of the rampaging youth of the NPP make him feel unsafe in the country.
“Why would I feel safe if other people do not feel safe? No matter what my position is, and no matter what I put in place to protect myself or what clout I have, if an ordinary citizen of this country is not safe, I, as a citizen of this country, I’m not safe also and you are not safe.
“We should all ask the police who have been given that mandate to ensure the peace of this country to account for that. They should be held responsible, and responsibility goes with accountability and I think that it is important the Ghana Police Service rise to the occasion,” he said.
Responding to the comment, Awuku told Abban Tuesday that the Peace Council chair has been unfair to the government with his claim.
“I disagree with Most Rev. Emmanuel Asante if he says he is unsafe in this country. I think that comment is unfortunate. To say he is unsafe, I think it carries a serious weight and it is unfair”.
Over the last few months, vigilante groups associated with the NPP have carried out about 20 onslaughts on state institutions and government appointees over their dissatisfaction with some appointments among other reservations.
