People’s National Convention’s General Secretary, Mr Awudu Ishaq, has challenged claims surrounding an alleged $1.7 billion loss by the GOLDBOD, insisting that the matter must be examined through the institution’s audited records and the Auditor-General’s report.
Speaking with Austin Woode on Morning Starr on Starr FM, Mr Awudu Ishaq said the GOLDBOD’s activities have been audited and that the relevant report is available in the public domain for scrutiny.
“Because this matter, the GOLDBOD, as an entity, it has had its books audited. We have a governance architecture that set up the Auditor-General’s Department, that set up Parliament. Parliament set up the Public Accounts Committee,” he said.
According to him, the Auditor-General has the mandate to audit public institutions and agencies, making the report an important document in assessing the GOLDBOD’s financial position.
“The Auditor General has duly audited the activities of the GOLDBOD. That document is in the public domain now. It’s a public document” he said.
Mr Awudu Ishaq said the report can be accessed and scrutinised by the public, arguing that discussions about the GOLDBOD’s financial performance should be based on the available evidence.
“Anybody at all can lay his or her hands on that document, And then the body responsible for scrutinizing the public the Auditor General report is back,” he said.
He further questioned the basis for claims about a $1.7 billion loss, insisting that the relevant records should be examined to establish the actual position.
“But Manuel is saying that even if we lead it to back, $1.7 billion loss, we will not find,” he said.
Mr Awudu Ishaq maintained that the Auditor-General’s report and the GOLDBOD’s audited records should be central to the debate over the institution’s alleged losses.
