The Upper East Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has advised the two factions in the Bawku conflict against engaging the Military men in a conflict.
The call comes on the back of allegations made by the Bawku Central MP, Mahama Ayariga on Wednesday condemning the shooting of some seven persons by military men in Bawku
But the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has debunked the accusations of the shooting and killing of locals by the military.
A statement issued by the military high command described the claims as false and unfounded.
The Ghana Armed Forces however explained that its men engaged a group of armed men and neutralized six of them.
The Upper East Regional Security Council(REGSEC) while sympathizing with the bereaved families advised both factions against engaging the military in combat.
“REGSEC calls on the people of Bawku to remain calm as it works to bring lasting peace to Bawku. REGSEC therefore admonishes the people of Bawku to stay calm as we go through the processes.
“Again, REGSEC appeals to both factions to desist from any attempt to engage the military in conflict, since that will be catastrophic on the part of the civilians. We should therefore be charting a peaceful roadmap for Bawku,” the Chief Director for RCD, Alhaji Abubakari Inusah said in a statement dated February 2, 2023.
