The National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress Samuel Ofosu Ampofo has eulogized the late Ama Benyiwa Doe describing her as the strongest woman in the history of the party.

According to him, the late Benyiwa Doe who was a cadre and served the party in various capacities including national Women’s Organizer was a fearless woman who defied all odds including political threats to fight harder for the NDC to regain power in 2000.

Mr. Ampofo noted that the political life and leadership skills of the late Ama Benyiwa Doe is worth emulating in the party by the youth.

He made these comments whiles addressing a youth program organized by the Suhum Constituency youth wing of the NDC on Sunday

He said “she was one of the strongest women in the history of the party. When the party came in 1992 you can liken her to Obaa Yaa Asantewaa that stood for the party. If you take out Ama Benyiwa Doe, there is no one else. ”

“This morning I was at church when I got a text that she had passed.”

He went on to eulogize her saying “she was someones who loved the party, she was someone who did what men could not do. When I was a national organizer, she was a national women organizer, so I know what I’m talking about.”

“When nobody was ready to go on radio to defend the party, it was me and her, Baba Jamal, Twumasi Appiah and Collins Dauda, Asiedu Nketiah and some others who did it.”

Ama Benyiwa, a staunch member of the NDC reportedly died on the morning of Sunday, September 19 at Tema, where she was receiving treatment after being unwell.

Benyiwa Doe once served as National Women Organiser for the NDC also served as the MP for Gomoa West from 1992 to 2004.

She was once the Central Regional Minister and later a member of the Council of State until the NDC lost power in 2016.
