Seven unidentified assialants were killed by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) in a shoot out in Binduri in the Upper East Region on Monday following an attack on a civilian convoy.
The seven were part of a group of armed bandits which sought to ambush a convoy of 140 civilians travelling from Bawku toward Bolgatanga with military escort.
Although the military successfully repulsed the attack during the attack and neutralized seven of the attackers, the initial volley of gunfire from the assailants tragically claimed the lives of three civilians and left another injured.
According to a statement signed by Acting Director General of Public Relations, Captain (Ghana Navy) Veronica Adzo Arhin, the military pursued bandits who run helterskelter following the repulsion and arrested 10 which included one who had sought refuge in a mosque.
The military recovered from an escapee One G3 automatic rifle, two filled magazines (20 rounds each), and 176 rounds of additional ammunition.
Captain (Ghana Navy) Veronica Adzo Arhin cautioned the public against interfering with military operations.
”The Ghana Armed Forces wishes to caution all to desist from engaging the military or any other security service during its operations,” the statement read.
The GAF extended its condolences to the families of the three civilians killed and offered well-wishes for the speedy recovery of the injured individual.
