John Bennett a sports Broadcaster with the BBC World service has highlighted Chris Hughton as a great inclusion to the Black Stars technical team ahead of the much anticipated World Cup qualifier between the Black’s Stars of Ghana and the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
Chris Hughton was named as the technical advisor for the Black Stars for their game against Nigeria, at the backdrop of the teams failure in the 33rd edition of the African Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
The former Brighton and Hove Albion manager’s time to deliver is due as Ghana lock horns with Nigeria at the Baba Yara Stadium on Friday.
John Bennett thinks in spite of the short term of work, Hughton will definitely be key in terms of organising the playing body.
“Organization, I will say is the main thing. You look back to his Brighton team. It got criticized because it wasn’t the most positive. It wasn’t the most adventurous, it wasn’t the most exciting…but he kept them in the Premier League and he made them very solid. At the back, it was very difficult to break them down. He always brought organization and always brought structure in a team and I think that is what he will bring to this Ghana team” he told Benjamin Yamoah on “Sports Today” on Starr FM.
The 63 year old who has also managed Newcastle United, Norwich City and Nottingham Forest among others is also tipped to takeover the Black Stars as head coach after the tie between Ghana and Nigeria is decided.
However, with the attacking threat of Nigeria, Chris Hughton’s capabilities will really be assessed based on how the defense of Ghana manages to contain the likes of Victor Osihmen, Ademola Lookman Chukweze and what have you.
